The Oscars 2023 kicked off on Sunday, March 12, 2023 and marked the 95th Academy Awards. And the line-up was full of massive blockbusters fighting for the gongs.
Elvis Presley was brought back to life last year with Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, Elvis, with Austin Butler at the forefront. And, although it received critical acclaim around the world, it has a tough fight ahead of it to win Best Picture at this year’s Oscars. The latest high-octane Tom Cruise thriller, Top Gun: Maverick, is also up for Best Picture, while the odds are in Brendan Fraser’s favour for his performance in The Whale. Meanwhile, Everything Everywhere All At Once won big at the Golden Globes earlier this year – does that mean it’s going to go home with the most amount of wins? Or will Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis be the only stars from the movie to win awards?
There are a number of major Hollywood stars presenting awards throughout the night, as well. Jessica Chastain, Ariana DeBose, Troy Kotsur, Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Zoe Saldaña are presenting a number of awards, as well as Sigourney Weaver, John Travolta, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly and Florence Pugh.
On top of the star-studded line-up of hosts, Rihanna will be performing her Best Original Song nomination Lift Me Up, which has been taken from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.
